Ardeth De Vries is a teacher, writer, and animal welfare advocate. Her most recent publication, First Light: Animal Voices in Concert, is now available for early purchase.

She lives with her Schnauzer family, Angus, Harper and Teddy, on an island in the Pacific Northwest, and has just completed an allegorical novel, A Space Between, about that “space between” lives. Currently she is working on a non-fiction book, A Field Guide for Incoming Spirits, which explores the difficulties involved in being human.

Ardeth's work with animals includes:

• three years of volunteering at an animal shelter,
• thirty years of rescuing abused and neglected Schnauzers,
• the operation of  “Broken Arrow”, a non-profit organization created to assist people with veterinary expenses for their companion animals,
• serving as end-of-life consultant, animal loss counselor and board member of Old Dog Haven, a non-profit organization that offers hospice care, assisted living and placement assistance for senior dogs,
• grief counseling for humans who are mourning the death of an animal friend,
• locating homes for animals in need,
• and teaching seminars and classes relating to animal welfare.
