Cocker Spaniel

Shasta is a 3 year old Cocker Spaniel that is full of life and energy. The beautiful face that you see above is far from what we found when we arrived at the Randolph County Animal Control Shelter to pick him up. What we found there was an emaciated and hairless little dog that looked more like a skeleton than a dog. His bleeding body was covered with sores and generalized skin infection from severe sarcoptic mange. Both eyes were ravaged from infection as well as both ears. This little fellow was shivering from fever as his tiny body was working overtime trying to fight off parasites and an overall body infection. Shasta has been a real trooper. His tail has never stopped wagging even with all the dips, medicated baths, oral medications, eye drops, and mulitiple trips to the vet's office. Three months later he has been released by our vet and is now ready for a loving stable family to share his love of life with. Shasta made remarkable progress during his recovery. Unfortunately the neglect that left him suffering in such a poor condition also has left him blind in one eye and with limited vision in his other eye. This in no way slows him down! He loves to play with his toys in the yard and enjoys taking walks with his human caretakers.
