**Update 10-9  The insurance company still refuses to pay, and now the lawyer won't return our calls.  We need to build another cattery but need plywood 4' x 8' x 3/4" to level the building first.  anyone with contacts where we can get plywood donated or cheap, please let us know.

**update: Another fire 8-22-04 has damaged the boarding/grooming area in the one remaining building at Happy Hills.  The animals were gotten out safely.  Determination was made that it started in the electrical outlet behind the washer and dryer.

On Easter Sunday evening a fire destroyed the house and office at Happy Hills.  All the animals have been rescued and are safe.  A flare-up after the main fire destroyed the house completely, nothing is salvageable.  On 4-16 the SBI determined the cause to be spontaneous combustion of stored pet food. (the dry bagged kind)  Despite the fire being "no-fault", the insurance company is refusing to pay, and there may be no funds to rebuild except what is donated.

All office equipment (phone, copy machine, answering machine, file cabinets, desks, cash register) has been destroyed and all the microchips, microchip scanner, heartworm tests, heartworm preventative, dog and cat vaccines, flea and tick treatments, and many other medications are lost as well.  Most of the cat food and cat litter have also been destroyed.  Most of the collars and leashes, choke chains, and halti collars were also destroyed.

Donations are needed immediately to care for the animals (particularly the cats that lost 2 of their catteries).  Donations are needed for everything from paying for a porta-potty, to renting large dumpsters.
Urgent needs are: Window A/C units: 220 size, a vinyl storage building, crowbar, sledgehammer, post hole diggers, basic tools: pliers, hammer, scissors, assorted screws and nails, a bulletin board, shelving that can hang on the wall, Epson T044120 black ink cartridges, copier/printer paper, 4" x 1" address labels, choke chains, Revolution for cats, cleaning supplies, postage stamps, microchips, bordatella vaccines, heating pads, drontal/droncit/panacur wormers, 7-way dog vaccines, 4-way cat vaccines.  Volunteers will be monitoring the info@hhaf.org account, and calls made to 336-622-3620 will be replied to as quickly as possible.   About 24 cats were displaced,  but thanks to generous people, 30 have been placed into emergency foster homes.  (every pet fostered is one less the staff has to care for during recovery, so foster homes for both cats and dogs are still welcomed!)

With the house gone, storage space is very limited, when possible gift cards or monetary donations will help us purchase food and litter as needed, without scrambling for space to store it right now.

If you are donating items, please help us by including a copy of your receipt (or estimate of value if receipt not available) and a sheet of paper with your name and address so we can send out a receipt for tax purposes. (the insurance company also needs the info to help determine replacement values)

If you volunteered to call companies for donations, and haven't updated us, please check in with Kitty at hhaf@hhaf.org on how the calling is going.  Thanks!

The outpouring of help has been incredible, thanks to everyone!
