"We adopted Satchel (then Snooks) in July 2003 when he was just 3 months old. The first day we brought him home, he was very small and shy. Within a couple weeks, he had developed quite a personality! He went to the beach with us, while he didn't like the water very much; he LOVES to dig! He goes wild with excitement about digging in sand. A couple months later we noticed that Satch's sister, (then Trinity) Gertie was still up for adoption. We couldn't stand to think of her not having a home, so we reunited them! They are quite the pair. Satch - the instigator and Gertie - the snuggly, shy type. (We do have to keep an eye out though, Gertie gets rowdy on occasion.) They are such well mannered, sociable dogs! We get lots of compliments on them - often asked about their breed.... we aren't sure exactly. Maybe some English Pointer and bulldog..... whatever breed, its not lacking in self confidence - Satch thinks he is this year's Sexiest Man Alive. We can't imagine life without Gertie and Satch, and we look forward to waking up with them pawing at our faces for years to come!"

Fudge and Snickers are doing great! My husband and I love our girls. (Since we got them just a few weeks before our wedding, we heard a lot of jokes about our shotgun wedding.)  Fudge and Snickers have bonded very well with my husband and I. They seem very happy and well adjusted. They had us both trained very quickly too.  The dogs get along great with everyone whom they have met. A lot of family members of all ages were at our home during the time frame of our recent wedding. The dogs loved all the extra petting and attention they got.

Fozzie loves to play w/ balls, feathers, and the other cats (his "big sisters"), is fascinated w/ water (gets in the shower after I'm finished and drinks water from the sink facet), he  is very affectionate (gives little head butts and "kisses" on my nose) and is just a great cat overall. We couldn't be more pleased!

What I found so amusing is that both Teddy and Mark fetch!  And I didn't have to teach them to do it either!  Anytime they want to play, they bring you a toy of their choice,  and will retrieve it as long as you continue to throw it!  I absolutely love them both, and cannot imagine life without them!  Thank you for letting me adopt them!

Both kitties are adjusting very well - they have the run of the place and seem to enjoy sleeping with me every night.  Abigail doesn't hesitate to awaken me on the weekends if I sleep past 6:30a - she's hungry and it's past her normal feeding time!  Emily and Abigail are sweet, loving and affectionate and I'm blessed to have been ready to adopt them when they were available for adoption.

Little Bit and Uno (who I adopted from you) love each other to death.  They run up the hall and nibble on each others ear and pull their toy ropes back and forth and tumble on the floor together.  Spancky loves to lay in my lap and watch along with my little Yorkie (Sugar).  Spancky loves to lay in your arms and cuddle.  They are sleeping in the bed with me and all the other little ones.  They have been an absolute joy to my family of dogs and me.

Kingpin is doing great! Christmas started for Kingpin Friday when we had Christmas with Ben's family and he was showered with gifts (treats and toys). He is the spoiled first grandchild.  He is also a full-fledged member of the local dog park, and he enjoys going there.  He likes going for runs and walks and is doing very well on the leash, except when he sees a squirrel; then all leash-training goes out the window.  Thank you so, so much for the wonderful care you gave him before he came to live with us.  We think Kingpin is perfect and we are so grateful to you and Happy Hills for bringing us together.

When I drove across NC to Happy Hills I had every intention of coming home with Meko (Hailey) until I got there and then there were so many animals. I started to feel a bit confused and frustrated. How could there be this many unwanted pets! Meko was cute but I couldn't tell what kind of pet she really was with all the other animals around plus you had just brought her there and dropped her off in a carrier so she was uncertain of the surroundings. As I wrote the check I was still feeling uneasy especially since my husband had not recovered from the death of our other cat and had told me we should wait. The drive home was long...her crying and then I would let her out of my carrier and she would immediately climb me like a tree. She wanted to sit on my head....I swear!  That was July 11, 2003 and every day since then my husband and I say how lucky we are to have her.  She is an amazingly affectionate cat and so happy in her new home. When we get home at the end of the day she races to greet us. Immediately she goes to the highest point.... couch or races upstairs to the bed if you are heading up to change so she can be closer to your level.
Unfortunately Dweezil has taught her to beg at the table. I remember the evening well. Dweezil loves to lick anything with tomatoes and we were having pasta. From the dining room Meko saw me lean over and let Dweezil lick my finger at the kitchen table and I swear I saw a light bulb go off uptop her head.....now they perch themselves to the left of my chair every evening....side by side....gold and green eyes staring and an occasional tap from Dweezil's paw. I have created monsters.

What more can I say we love her she is perfect. Thank you Happy Hills for giving us a very special cat and a great sister for
Dweezil. Dweezil can actually stretch out for the first time 14 years without being attacked by her brother that passed away. Sometimes she sleeps so hard I feel as though she is making up for all those years of lost sleep because she had to sleep with one eye open.

Adidas, AKA Angelica or Angel as I call her, and her new brother Patch (Patchouli) have a great time sparring or chasing around the house. Grooming each other and napping together is common.  She enjoys relaxing moments laying upon my chest while I watch TV in the evenings. And, she is not shy when it comes time for little head bumps and nose kisses.  She has a quiet, sometime squeaky, voice. (That is until she wants to be heard. Then, she uses her full feline vocals.) It was beginning to concern me until I heard (TV, I think) the last of her little siblings to be adopted also had a soft or squeaky voice then I realized it was just her way.  It has been a tremendous pleasure having her in the house. I'm so glad I made the trip to Happy Hills.

Hi, i would like to thank all of you who helped us adopt Lillie, her transition into our home with another dog was shaky at first but after speaking to the workers at Happy Hills they encouraged us to give it time and our two dogs would connect. That was in November and now it is April - Dauber and Lilie are best friends. They love to chase each other in the yard and she loves to sleep with him on our bed. Granted they both think they are head of the house but she has turned into a great joy to have at home- i look forward to hearing her speak to us in her roaring voice each day which means she wants you pet her. If anyone
comes into our home and ignores her she speaks to them in a soft roaring voice to let them know she is waiting for acknowledgment , it's very cute. Thank you so much for saving her and her happiness makes me feel good b/c she was a little timid at first even at the shelter. But now she is outgoing and loving, that is what pets are all about loving and giving.

Sincerely, Mandy Swierad
Well I've been meaning to give you guys an update for quite sometime now. I adopted Graci, (you guys called her Teddy Bear), like two years ago and I thought I would write with pictures. She is the best dog ever. She sleeps in my bed every night and wakes me up for school every morning. I've never had a better friend than this dog. She loves going to the barn and chasing the horses, it always makes me so nervous. That's alright though, I love her to death, and I wanted to thank you guys for making that possible. Here's a picture of my darling, I took this picture and it also won the Times News photography contest. Graci is just all kinds of wonderful I suppose.
